About the
Downtown Bay Form:
The Downtown Bay Forum: Get to Know Our President, Annette
Eisenberg
The President and Founder of
the Downtown Bay Forum is Annette Eisenberg. Annette has been placing her
imprint on Miami-Dade County since 1950. Once a working mother of two in her
husband’s electronics firm, Annette blazed unknown grounds in Urban Renewal
activities when she became the Project Area Committee Chair for a program
focused on the Edison Park area. At the time, Edison Park was considered
racially and culturally unique and identified by the United States government
for special programming and funding.
As Committee Chair, Annette assisted
in the development and implementation of a youth center, senior citizen’s public
housing, family public housing, and a senior high school in the Edison area. She
was also involved in the improvement of existing parks and streets, the
construction of new parks, lighting and neighborhood “Clean-up” campaigns.
Ultimately, thanks to Annette’s leadership, the Edison Project was successful in
engaging the community’s awareness for additional needs and funding.
Annette Eisenberg has continued
her seemingly untiring efforts by writing one of the first CDBG initiatives for
the Little River area. She has served on the Little HUD Advisory Board of
Miami-Dade County, The Downtown Development Authority Board, the City of Miami
Code Enforcement Board, and the Community Partnership for the Homeless Board.
She has also served as a member of the Neighborhood Council for the Wynwood Area
Empowerment Zone and is current Chair of the Downtown Bay Forum.
Among Annette’s many recognitions are the
following:
- Recognized as one of
Florida’s Prominent People in Government
- City of Miami Department of
Parks Awarded Citizen of the Day
- Community Head Liner for
Women in Communications
- Martin Luther King Memorial
Brotherhood Award
- Florida Electronic Service
Association’s Woman of the Year
- Edison Middle School’s
Pacesetter Award
- Presidential Award from the
Tifereth Israel Congregation
- John F. Kennedy Award for
community service from Edison Senior High School
MEET OUR VICE PRESIDENT, SHEILA ZEMSKY . . .
The Downtown Bay Forum is proud of
our Vice President, Sheila Zemsky, who has been with us from the beginning of
our organization. A lifetime Board Member, Sheila is an integral part of our
club’s operations, serving to organize suggested ideas, provide meeting notices
to our membership, update the membership records, and preside at meetings when
the President is absent. She is also the President of her Brickell Key I
Condominium Association where Downtown Bay Forum Board meetings are held.
Sheila is also active in other ways
that affect our community. She is a Board Member of Mother’s Voices, an outreach
program that strengthens family communication about sex, sexual health, and
HIV/AIDS/STD prevention through education and awareness. Mothers’ Voices is a
national non-profit organization. The South Florida Chapter was founded in 1996
by mothers who had lost children to AIDS, giving them an opportunity to turn
their pain into action. Ms. Zemsky is a founding member.
Sheila comes to us with a strong
professional background. Until her retirement in 1988, she served as Vice
President and Director of Operations/Claims Analyst for Florida Engineering
Consultants, Inc., a group of Forensic Engineers and Project managers. Sheila’s
work there involved her in the day-to-day operational procedures of the company
and the long-term business goals of the corporation. Sheila was responsible for
researching, purchasing, and finally, customizing the latest state-of-the-art
technology to insure that the proper automated controls were in place to run a
business with the maximum professionalism while guaranteeing optimum financial
protection for the corporation. While the Downtown Bay Forum has little need to
exercise this wide array of Sheila’s skills, we do appreciate her ability to
keep us on course and to advise us in making our selections for our charitable
contributions. Members of
the Downtown Bay Forum also appreciate Sheila’s droll sense of humor. When
discussion gets heated or a lecture becomes too ponderous, that quip coming from
the back of the room that breaks the tension and circulates laughter can usually
be attributed to Sheila. On the other hand, the “yip” you might hear of
delightful anticipation (actually, just about when the food is to be served) is
attributable to Sheila’s little red poodle, Buttons, our other lifetime Board
Member (Honorary).
